Set Up: This entails carrying & setting up tables, chairs, or supplies from transport vehicles to the designated place around the shelter. Unpacking boxes & putting up signs will also be necessary.
Goody (Swag) bag assembly: Prior to the event volunteers will fill bags with gifts for those registered for the walk. An option would be arranging the gifts on a table with directions so that the participants can fill their own bags. This eliminates waste for gifts which are unwanted by participants.
Registration: Volunteers will check in participants who have already registered for the walk. Other volunteers will register & process fees for day of walk registration. Course map, etc. will be distributed as well.
Tee shirt distribution: Volunteers will organize shirts by size & distribute to participants who preregistered.
Food/beverages: Volunteers will sell food & beverages.
Games/Activities: Volunteers will assist in organizing & supervising after the walk activities. This includes the Canine Good Citizen Test which will be administered by Judy Bush.
Photographer: This volunteer role entails lining up people & dogs who desire a picture & assisting the photographer in posing the people & their dogs & focusing the dogs’ attention.
Merchandise: Volunteers are needed to assist Jim Cook in the sale of merchandise.
First Aide station: This volunteer staffs the first aid station by distributing bandaids, antiseptic cream, etc. There is the possibility that the first aid kit might have to be carried to a place on the course.
Trash control: These volunteers replace full bags of garbage with empty ones, patrol the area picking up stray trash, stools, etc.
Tear Down/pack-up: These volunteers will assist with packing up merchandise, food, beverages, supplies, etc. & carrying them to transport vehicles. They will need to make a clean-up check of the area.
Transport: Volunteers will use their vehicle to transport supplies to the walk site.
Course Marshalls: These volunteers will station themselves at intervals on the walking course. They will move around their area picking up any trash or stool, assisting groups of walkers, making certain that the walk rules are being followed, & calling back to the shelter for assistance which might be needed on the course. There will be 3 stations along the course for course marshalls.
Start Line: Volunteers will supervise the beginning of the walk so that walkers are not crowded in large groups but evenly spaced on the course.
Fundraising: Volunteers are needed to serve as team leaders & recruit members/donations for their fund raising team. Volunteers will also recruit business/corporate sponsors or donations from such.
